Camille O’Sullivan

Camille O'Sullivan enjoys a formidable international reputation for her intensely dramatic interpretations of the songs of Jacques Brel, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, David Bowie and more. Chameleon-like on stage, and backed by her talented five-piece band, each song becomes a different character with its own story to tell. The half-Irish, half-French performer has stunned audiences around the world, with five-star reviews and sell-out performances at Sydney Opera House, New York, Poland, Italy, Ireland and a recent six-week run at the Apollo in London's West End.

Review 1

Almost exactly a year ago, at the beginning of the Edinburgh Fringe festival, the award-winning architect turned cab-aret chanteuse Camille O'Sullivan emerged from the wings of a packed, steamy Spiegeltent and sashayed through the crowd in a blood-red cocktail dress, kissing and caressing male and female audience members like a purring cat.

At her best, her performance is a winning combination – part West End show, part comedy sketch, part glamorous burlesque act.

Review 3

Camille O'Sullivan made her name as part of burlesque circus La Clique, and her shows retain a strong streak of theatre. She smears her face white, slashes her lips with red and makes like a discarded doll. Her wine-soaked voice cracks with emotion, or ennui: it's as if she is summoning her last dregs of energy to utter each syllable. Even letting down her hair becomes an event; another icon of scuzzy glamour, to set against her fishnets and fulsome decolletage, and the fairy lights and shimmering frocks that decorate the stage.
